Things to do Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day is the time to celebrate your hard work and enjoy one last bit of summer before the fall season is in full swing. From concerts to car shows and time at the beach, you’re sure to find plenty of ways to fill the long weekend with these events:  

California Events: 

LA Fleet Week

When: August 30th – September 2nd, 2019
Where: LA Waterfront at the Port of Los Angeles (250 S. Harbor Blvd, San Pedro, CA)
Cost: Free

This annual celebration honors the United States Sea Services and all who have served or are serving in the armed forces. It’s the largest Labor Day event in Los Angeles, and features free ship tours, concerts, aerial flyovers, and various demonstrations by Los Angeles first responders. Attendees can tour the many exhibits, which include a STEM expo for students, a Military Village with historic and modern equipment, and a Veterans Village featuring resources available to support veterans. You’ll not only have fun at this event, but you’ll also be supporting a great cause and honoring the individuals who risk so much to keep us safe.

Fiesta Hermosa

When: August 31st – September 2nd, 2019
Where: Hermosa Beach Pier (Hermosa Beach, CA 90254)
Cost: Free

Often referred to as the “Largest Arts & Crafts Fair in Southern California,” Fiesta Hermosa draws nearly 300 painters, photographers, jewelers, handcrafters, and other artists to Hermosa Beach each year. Guests can enjoy the creations, along with a wide variety of cuisine, beverages, and live entertainment. Children will enjoy the Kidde Carnival, which includes rides, games, and a 30-foot slide.

Long Beach Greek Festival

When: August 31st – September 2nd, 2019
Where: 5761 E. Colorado Street (Long Beach, CA 90814)
Cost: $5 for admission

Immerse yourself in Greek culture at this beloved annual Labor Day event. There will be authentic Greek food, music, demonstrations, dancing, and entertainment. You’re sure to have a great time and come away with a better understanding of the culture and history.

Made in LA 2019

When: August 31st - September 2nd, 2019
Where: Golden Road Brewing (5410 West San Fernando Road, Los Angeles, CA 90039)
Cost: $25 for a single day ticket

Join Made in LA for the third year of performances on Labor Day. Featured performers include cold War Kids, Donavon Frankenreiter, and Lemaitre, among others. There will be plenty of fun for all, and beer available for purchase.

90th Annual Oceanside Labor Day Pier Swim

When: September 2nd, 2019 from 7:00 am – 12:00 pm
Where: Oceanside Pier (301 The Strand N Oceanside, CA 92054)
Cost: $60-70/ race entry

Watch swimmers of all ages take to the waters for a 1-mile race marked along the Oceanside pier. Awards will be distributed in each age and gender category. This annual event is held to fundraise for the Oceanside Swim Club, a group dedicated to training young swimmers and helping them compete competitively.

Orange County Cruise Night Labor Day Car Show

When: September 2nd, 2019 from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Where: Linbrook Bowling Center (201 S Brookhurst St, Anaheim, CA 92804)
Cost: Free

Enjoy a night full of cars from Orange County Cruise Night, fun, and exciting prizes at this 2nd annual event. The show runs from 6 to 9 pm, and it’s recommended you show up early since the area tends to fill up fast.

Labor Day Beach Bash

When: September 2nd, 2019 from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Where: SeaLegs at the Beach (17851 Pacific Coast Hwy, Huntington Beach, CA 92649)
Cost: View prices on their website

Enjoy drinks and dancing barefoot in the sand at this beach bash. Hosted by SeaLegas at the Beach, it will feature live entertain by the band Tijuana Dogs, a rock/dance band.

Labor Day Celebration at Pretend City

When: September 2nd, 2019 from 10 am – 5 pm
Where: Pretend City (29 Hubble, Irvine, CA 92618)
Cost: Museum admission $13.75/person

Need something to do with the kids on this day off school? Bring them to Pretend City! There will be a celebration teaching kids the importance of hard work and helping the community. Children can join activities teaching the different jobs that make up a community. They’ll even get to draw self-portraits representing what career they see themselves doing in the future. 

Rock Labor Day

When: September 2nd, 2019 starting at 5:30 am
Where: Marina Vista Park (5200 E. Eliot Street Long Beach, CA 90803)
Cost: Entry fees starting at $19.99

This run sets its course along lake and oceanside streets and through scenic city landscape. All runners will be provided with Gatorade and snacks from the aid station, and a 4” medal to commemorate the event upon completion. Participants can choose from a variety of race lengths, from a 5K to full marathon.

Wyoming Events: 

Fort Bridger Mountain Man Rendezvous

When: August 30th- September 2nd starting at 8:00 am
Where: Fort Bridger State Historic Site (37000 I 80BL, Fort Brider, WY 82933)
Cost: $5 per person, kids 12 and under free, dressed in pre-1840 head-to-toe free

Head to Fort Bridger and step back in time to the fur trade era. There will be food, shopping, kids activities, music, dancing, marksmanship competitions, and more.

Shoshoni Labor Day Rodeos

When: August 31st - September 1st
Where: Art Shanley Memorial Arena (1st and South Maple St, Shoshoni, WY 82649)
Cost: $8  

Shoshoni’s 17th Annual Labor Day Weekend Rodeo where you can watch real cowboys and fast rodeo action.

Don King Days

When: September 1st – September 2nd gates open 9 am
Where: Big Horn Equestrian Center (352 Bird Farm Rd, Sheridan, WY 82801)
Cost: $10, kids 12 and under free

Bring the whole family for old-time western excitement that you won’t forget. Celebrate the classic equestrian events unique to the Sheridan area -- polo, steer roping and bronc riding.

 

The Labor Day Weekend Barrel Blast

 

When: August 31st – September 2nd  
Where: Goshen County Fairgrounds (7078 Fairgrounds Rd, Torrington, WY 82240)
Cost: Exhibitions started at $5

The 10th Annual Labor Day Weekend Barrel Blast will be held on Saturday, August 31st – Monday, September 2nd, 2019 in Torrington, Wyoming. This Torrington rodeo is held at Goshen County Fairgrounds. 6th Annual Kaylie Haun Memorial Events on September 2.
